The End (I Hope)

Posted by on Wednesday, November 9, 2011,
There is still no indication that the hacking has been repeated, and today for the first time in over a week I have found no further indications of vandalism or edited articles. No one has messaged me about further problems, and the access logs registered no more unauthorized intruders.

So hopefully that means that this horrid experience has come to an end. If no further attacks occur, then this will be my final entry in this log.

Thank you to all of you who have offered understanding and suppo...

So far today it seems the upgrades to my security system are working, and the hacked pages have all been fixed or removed. Maybe the nightmare is finally over!

Updates

Posted by An Overworked Victim of Cyberbullying on Monday, November 7, 2011,
So far today it seems that there are no new problems, although I am still scouring the hundreds of pages of musings to find anymore nefarious edits and additions.

I did manage to test my theory of how this vandalism was performed though. Using my netbook under a guest account, I managed to break into my own WiFi network, get my password protections removed (and restored later) and retroactively added an extra page to one of my blogs. So at least now I know how it could have been done.

But wit...

Updates

Posted by A Very Tired Victim of Vandalism on Sunday, November 6, 2011,
In my ongoing quest to repair the damage caused by nefarious ne'er-do-wells who hacked into my network, I have been dumping the access logs from my WiFi system. At this point there are seven entries that do not appear to be connected to my equipment, although I am sure a couple of these are legitimate visitors or obsolete machinery that has since been updated. However I will be trying this week to track them all down to try and find the intruder.

UPDATE: I have now identified six devices which...

Changes...

Posted by Chris Bird on Sunday, November 6, 2011,
In case viewers are missing content from my site that they previously enjoyed, I would like to mention that some content is being removed due to my recent security breach.

At this point in time, all blogs or diaries or journals are password protected with the exception of my science and technology blog. I am also migrating all protected material to dedicated blogging hosts who may provide better features and better security. I will provide new links at some point in the future.

I have also scr...

How To Identify My Posts

Posted by on Saturday, November 5, 2011,
Since my posts and private diary and unpublished drafts got added to and edited, I thought I would take a moment to give some rough guidelines for readers on how to identify my writings:

  • If it relates to some obscure mathematics or science topic that only an uber-geek or a specialist would have any interest in
  • If it requires a degree in English literature and an unabridged dictionary to interpret
  • If it praises people who have done a kindness for me or who have helped me at some point
  • If every sec...

I should also mention, in case some haven't read this in the other postings, that pages were added to my private diary when it was made public. Many of the comments in it were not mine at all.

Which means if there was something offensive or insulting to someone, it probably wasn't me. Those who know me personally know that I am basically a pacifist who tries hard to get along with everyone. I shudder to think of how many people read those articles and thought that I actually was writing it. I...

Background Information

Posted by on Saturday, November 5, 2011,
As readers of my main blog know, sometime in the past few months my computer and website got hacked into and tampered with. My private diary, which was password protected when I created it and should have always remained that way, was instead made public. My mundane musings and trivial tripe were edited and added to to make them far more serious than anything I would ever write let alone release to the world. Other pages were deleted, links were added and others erased, and files stored on a ...

About Me

This blog has been written to present updates on an incident that occurred in November 2011 in which I was informed that my website had been hacked at some point in the past months. It contains information and updates on my effort to restore my site to the trivial tripe that you all know and love.
