There was an interesting astronomy news story a few days ago that I wanted to pass along. A team of astronomers has discovered the first planet outside of our own solar system that has the right temperatures to support liquid water and life.

Although scientists are usually cautious about such things, it is possible (though admittedly improbable) that this new planet has life on it. Of course it is many light-years away, so no one is going to go there to check in the near future.

Consider that when I started university fifteen years ago there were no known planets outside of our system, and now we know of hundreds (maybe thousands) and for the first time there is one the may have life on it! This is really exciting news!
