November 11, 2018 - Remembrance DayLet us each take a moment out of our busy schedules to remember all of those who sacrificed to protect our freedoms. Lest we forget...

November 2, 2018 - Congratulations to my former colleagues at the TRIUMF Particle Accelerator, with today's announcement that the federal government will be funding an expansion of their isotope production facilities. The particle accelerator at TRIUMF is already used to produce radioactive isotopes for a range of medical applications in addition to scientific experiments, and the new expansion should permit the accelerator to generate even more such materials. This is a great investment in both scientific research and cutting edge medical technology, and is a big achievement for the TRIUMF team!

November 2, 2018 - There has been some sad news for astronomers this week, as two of NASAs space probes have both gone dead in the last few days due to exhausting their fuel supplies. The Kepler probe, which has detected thousands of exoplanets during its mission, ran out earlier this week and now remains dormant, while the Dawn probe which was studying the asteroid belt and the planetoid Ceres was announced dead this morning. Both were very successful, and provided astronomers and astrophysicists with data that will be studied for many years to come.

October 31, 2018 - HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!

October 27, 2018 - For those who are interested, I have now posted this year's pumpkin carvings on my new website, located at public.drchrisbird.net/Pumpkins

October 24, 2018 - With the arrival of Halloween next week, I have once again had inquiries into my pumpkin artwork and photography. For those who are interested, two great sources of patterns and templates are PumpkinGlow and Zombie Pumpkins. I have had a lot of success in past years with their designs (interested viewers can see my own artwork from 2001-2005,2005-2011, and 2012-2017. Some of these are based on Zombie designs, while others are my own original designs).

October 8, 2018 - Happy Thanksgiving Canada!! We live in one of the greatest countries in the world, in one of the best eras in history, and many will be celebrating this day with their loved ones (or if all else fails, their families). We truly have much to be thankful for today, and it is always worth taking the time to remind ourselves of that fact. Enjoy the holidays everyone!

October 2, 2018 - Congratulations to the three recipients of the 2018 Nobel Prize in physics. For those who are interested in knowing more about the research that earned them the prize, I will be writing a summary in my science blog

September 27, 2018 - For those who have been asking, I have posted photos of my recent trip to my Instagram account. For some reason Flickr hasn't been working well lately, but I will try to add the photos to that account as well when I get some free time.

September 15, 2018 - After months of hard work on a variety of projects, I finally get my summer vacation! So for the next week I will be in the woods with no human contact at all!

September 9, 2018 - I have a tiny bit of website related news today, so insignificant that I hesitated to even post it. However I have now reversed how the links on these news pages are connected to each other, so that from this point on "Next" will mean more recent posts and "Previous" will mean older posts. Apparently the way the host software linked them before, which was with "Next" meaning an older page and "Previous" meaning newer pages, was confusing some of my readers. So we will see if the new system works any better now...

September 4, 2018 - When I turned on my computer this morning I discovered that the server had erased a large quantity of my emails from the past weekend. So if anyone sent me anything important, it might be a good idea to send it again...
