October 31, 2024 - HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!

October 24, 2024 - With the arrival of Halloween next week, I have once again had inquiries into my pumpkin artwork and photography. For those who are interested, two great sources of patterns and templates are PumpkinGlow and Zombie Pumpkins. I have had a lot of success in past years with their designs (interested viewers can see my own artwork from 2001-2005,2005-20112012-2018, and 2019 - 2023. Some of these are based on Zombie designs, while others are my own original designs).

October 15, 2024 - I have had a few people inquiring as to whether I will be doing a Halloween rendering this year, as I have been doing each year for the last decade or so. While I really enjoy these projects, I have to face the reality that generative AI is faster and produces better results than I ever could - which leads into the second reason that I am giving it up, in that most online forums for 3D artwork are now flooded with arguments about whether specific artworks are human made or AI generated. Since I don't need that in my life right now, I will be focusing on other interests and activities for now and leaving the 3D artwork for the neural networks to generate!

October 14, 2024 - Happy Thanksgiving Canada!! We live in one of the greatest countries in the world, in one of the best eras in history, and many will be celebrating this day with their loved ones (or if all else fails, their families). We truly have much to be thankful for today, and it is always worth taking the time to remind ourselves of that fact. Enjoy the holidays everyone!

October 8, 2024 - Congratulations to Geoffrey Hinton and John Hopfield for being selected as the recipients of the 2024 Nobel Prize in Physics. This was a slightly unexpected win, as their research was not in a traditional field of physics, and yet their pioneering work in developing artificial neural networks has effectively created the modern artificial intelligence models that have become so prevalent in the last few years. It is a well deserved win by two brilliant pioneers in this rapidly growing field!

May 1, 2024 - A quick note today to let everyone know that I have decided to disconnect for a few weeks (or a few months if I start enjoying it) and won't be updating my websites or social media during that time. There are a few projects that I want to concentrate on for a while, and I have found that maintaining an online presence is too distracting. I will still reply to my emails and text messages, but for the next few months I will be going silent online. See you all when I return!

April 10, 2024 - Sad news from the particle physics community with the announcement of the death of Nobel Prize winning theoretical physicist Peter Higgs, one of about a dozen physicists to propose the Higgs mechanism and Higgs boson (and obviously the reason for their names), and the age of 94. He may be gone, but his contributions to the scientific community will last forever.

April 8, 2024 - Just a reminder that if you want to view the eclipse today, you must have either special eclipse sunglasses (ordinary sunglasses are not sufficient) or specialized solar filters. And for the love of sanity, do not follow the example of a few dozen people who during the last big eclipse rubbed sunscreen on their eyeballs!
