May 3, 2008 - I have my dissertation completed now, and just need to await proof-reading. I will post it here as soon as it is approved.
April 19, 2008 - There was a paper in the arXiv this morning from the DAMA/LIBRA experiment, again claiming that they have detected galactic dark matter. Although there are already people claiming faults in the result, it is a promising step forward. And at the very least they at did not exclude a dark matter signal.
April 17, 2008 - It looks like I will defend my dissertation this summer, and so by the fall I will be finished with graduate school.
April 3, 2008 - My photography hobby is paying off - I have been offered the chance to sell some of my work to stock photography companies.
April 2, 2008 - I just came back from an interesting seminar by John Clarke of UC Berkeley. He was talking about the use of SQUIDs in a number of applications, but of particular interest was their use in a new form of low magnetic field MRI device. This new machine looks to be cheaper, less claustrophobic, and possibly able to detect several forms of cancer not visible in traditional MRI scans. It is quite an interesting advancement in medical physics.
February 20, 2008 - My old truck has finally given out completely, so I have to go car shopping after work today :(
January 29,2008 - I just got back from the Lansdowne lecture, and it was certainly worth attending. It was a really good review of black hole thermodynamics and information loss.
January 28, 2008 - And again I lost an entire day of work because of dealing with the estate and related legal paperwork.
January 20, 2008 - I am getting tired of dealing with estate matters. I had hoped to spend this week on my dissertation, but legal matters have taken up the majority of my time. Hopefully next week it will ease up a little.
January 15,2008 - I just received more legal papers to review, which probably means no time tomorrow for research :(
January 13,2008 - I have finally finished assembling the Lynxmotion robotic base I got for Xmas, and the H-Bridge board I bought with birthday money, and started my new robot. It runs a lot better than my previous one, so I am abandoning work the much beloved 'Herbie the Robot'. (but I am still leaving his photo on my robots page)
December 27, 2007 - Another year over, and I don't think one thing went right this year. Here's hoping that 2008 turns out a little better!

December 24, 2007- After everything that has happened this year, it is nice to finally relax and just have a holiday.
December 18,2007 - I finally found some spare time to work on my latest robot, and have managed to add an interesting mapping feature that can create an internal map of a building, and then use a video game algorithm to calculate the most efficient paths to travel.
