November 25, 2011 - After reading about the pepper sprayings, knifings, and armed robberies that accompanied Black Friday this year, I am more glad than ever to have all my shopping already completed and most of it online!

November 23, 2011 - For those who think that I do not yet have enough websites, I have started another one located at http://chrisbird.heliohost.org. I am just getting started so there isn't much to see yet, but this new host offers a few more geeky features (such as PHP and MySQL hosting) that are not available through my current host.

November 21, 2011 - Finally the great website ZombiePumpkins has done a pumpkin design of the Swedish Chef. Of course I did one last year (photo), but I think their's is just a little bit better (OK, I will admit that it is far superior to my attempts).  But I did get a laugh it, so I am passing along the link

November 19, 2011 - For those of you who live in the province of British Columbia, today is election today. So read about the candidates, see who shares your views and visions for your community, and then go out and support them by voting. This is the one day when the residents themselves get to make a real impact on their communities!

November 17, 2011 - I was just reading about a hard drive shortage this year. Apparently due to flooding in Asia, hard drives here are either unavailable or they are selling for double or triple their value. They say this will last for another six to twelve months, so I would suggest people buy any cheap drives as soon as they see them.

November 15, 2011 - I just learned of a new website to compete with the arXiv, entitled viXra. This doesn't affect 99% of my readers, but I thought I would include it for physicists and mathematicians. As we all know, the arXiv is getting more restrictive by the year, and increasingly rejecting academic papers for any number of reasons. ViXra is supposed to be more open, which will undoubtedly lead to some questionable papers but will also allow established scientists to explore more controversial topics.

November 12, 2011 - For a variety of reasons, I am going to be out of town for the next week or so and also (possibly) out of cell phone and internet range. Anyone with pressing issues to contact me over should do it today or hold off for about ten days.

November 11,2011 - Today is Remembrance Day here in Canada, although I am sure that other countries have similar celebrations. Let us all take a few moments today to remember all of the men and women who sacrificed so much to give us all the freedoms and protection that we now enjoy. I will be wearing my poppy with pride today!

November 8, 2011 - For those who are even mildly interested in astronomy, there will be an asteroid passing by the Earth today. More details are available on my science blog, or any number of dedicated astronomy websites.

November 6, 2011 - Remember to move your clocks back by one hour today. I was excited to have an extra hour, until I realized it takes me about an hour to change all of my equipment over :(

November 5, 2011 - Since the efforts to restore my website are taking longer than anticipated, and since the hacking may have been repeated, I have set up a new page to give information on the restoration efforts. It can be viewed here. ( UPDATE: I should also clarify that I don't mind if friends, family and even co-workers have been reading my private blog. Although it wasn't meant to be public, I really don't mind if people did read it. Just remember that I didn't write some of the pages.)

November 5, 2011 - I would like to inform those seeking tutorial services this term that due to a heavy workload I am not available. I apologize for this inconvenience, and am providing early notification so that my former students can seek other tutors before the reading break commences.

November 4, 2011 - I have now added photos of this year's pumpkin art to my website. It can be viewed here.

November 4, 2011 - I want to give my readers a warning - someone has been phoning around telling people their computers are infected and asking the person to turn over confidential computer codes which give the scammer access to your computer. It is a scam, and should be avoided. (For some reason I am sensitive to this right now - even though it wasn't how my own system was hacked)

November 3, 2011 - I am happy today that I received information on my grandpa's military service record - and just in time for Rememberance Day!
