March 28, 2015 - Another exciting bit of news from the Arduino community today, with a preview announcement of project Eslov. The basic idea will be a set of affordable electronics modules that interact with each other to make a sort of distributed system for hobbyists. Considering how successful the Arduino boards have been for hobbyists, one can only imagine how much fun these new devices will be!

March 27, 2015 - For those who have been asking for updates on my solar webcam project, it was delayed for several reasons including an underpowered solar panel and restrictions on experimenting with my wireless provider. However I have just now received a more powerful solar panel and a more efficient lithium battery pack. Hopefully now I can move forward with the project, and as soon as I have a completed new version I will post an update.

March 26, 2015 - For those who have been inquiring about tutorial services this year, I fear I do not have a set schedule for all of my projects and tasks yet, and so I cannot take on any students right now. I might find some time in mid-April, but I cannot guarantee anything.

March 25, 2015 - Apparently the electrical service to my neighbourhood will be off for up to eight hours tomorrow. So if I do not reply to messages, that will be the reason.

March 23, 2015 - I just saw a new Kickstarter campaign online for the UberBlox System. This is sort of a hyped up Lego system, which will provide Makers with kits of metal parts and electronics useful for building robotics systems or other mechanical prototypes. It is a really cool idea, and I would encourage my followers to support this great new product idea.

March 20, 2015 - Just a reminder that those of you in Europe today will get the chance to see a solar eclipse. Remember to be careful and not look directly at the sun. And those who are not in a good viewing location can watch a live feed from the Slooh community observatory.

March 17, 2015 - Happy St Patrick's Day!!

March 14, 2015 - Happy Pi-Einstein day to all my nerd friends! It is both the birthday of the great Albert Einstein, and a day whose date matches the digits of Pi. This year also marks the only time in this century that the year fits in as well, with the date and time being 3/14/15, 9:26:53am.

March 2, 2015 - I just received the notification that registrations are now open for the Bay Area MakerCon for the end of the month. Unfortunately I have other commitments and so cannot attend, but it should be a good event this year for those who are able to attend. The online form can be found here.

March 1, 2015 - My former colleagues at the University of Victoria are hosting a public event for the community this week, in which the top scientists in their specialist fields will be presenting their research to the general public. It is a great event for families or for individuals, and very educational even for those of us who work in the field.

He has designed a replica of the Large Hadron Collider, complete with detectors, and it trying to convince Lego to make it a proper commercial kit. Unfortunately it is not a working model, but still entertaining. Readers can vote here to make it a Lego kit.

February 26, 2015 - Great news today for freedom throughout the world - the FCC has ruled that the internet must remain open and cannot be regulated by their own government or corporations. Lets just hope the next regime doesn't change this. For now though, it is a positive step forward. The NPR article gives more detail and can be viewed here.
