November 26, 2015 - It seems like only yesterday that the Raspberry Pi was released, and shocked the world by being a $25 full computer system that was more powerful than top desktops just a decade earlier. Now the team has gone even further with today's release of the Raspberry Pi Zero, which is a $5 computer! It is not as powerful or user-friendly as its predecessor, but at $5 it is going to be a lot more useful for quick and fast projects. I can't wait to get one!

November 25, 2015 - This is the day one century ago when the field of physics would be forever changed, with the publication of the Theory of General Relativity by Albert Einstein. Much of our modern world would not function without his achievements, and it is worth remembering just how much he changed the world with his wild ideas and theories.

November 20, 2015 - Today marks the 100th anniversary of David Hilbert publishing the theory of general relativity. Whether his theory and Einstein's more famous one were equivalent, and how much influence the two men had on each other, we might never know. Regardless of what really happened back in November 1915, it was a remarkable achievement and a beautiful theory.

November 11, 2015 - Remembrance DayLet us each take a moment out of our busy schedules to remember all of those who sacrificed to protect our freedoms. Lest we forget...

November 4, 2015 - I have had a few requests from different groups to use my Remembrance Day render of a poppy field in various media projects. To save time replying to everyone, here is the file and anyone using it for a non-profit organization that either celebrates veterans or benefits veterans is free to use it.

October 31, 2015 - HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!

October 24, 2015 - With the arrival of Halloween next week, I have once again had inquiries into my pumpkin artwork and photography. For those who are interested, two great sources of patterns and templates are PumpkinGlow and Zombie Pumpkins. I have had a lot of success in past years with their designs (interested viewers can see my own artwork from 2001-2005,2005-2011, and 2012-2014. Some, but not all, of these are based on Zombie designs).

October 19, 2015 - I normally keep my websites apolitical, but as a scientist and a rational thinker I just cannot help expressing my joy that the nightmare is over and we finally have a good government of Canada and an intelligent prime minister once more!

October 19, 2015 - A reminder to everyone in Canada that today is the federal election. If you don't vote, you don't get to complain about the government later. So get out there and cast your vote - unless you support a party that I don't in which case feel free to stay home and protest the entire political system by abstaining :)

October 12, 2015 - Happy Thanksgiving to all of my Canadian friends and family!

October 6, 2015 - Congratulations to Takaaki Kajita and Arthur B. McDonald on winning the 2015 Nobel Prize in Physics for their discovery of neutrino oscillations.

October 3, 2015 - And continuing with the photos from space theme, there is an interesting new Kickstarter project called SpaceVR which is trying to raise money to place a virtual reality camera on the international space station, and transmit a live feed for users around the world. If they are successful, it will be quite an interesting project for those who will never go into space but would like to.

October 1, 2015 - NASA has released some amazing photos taken by the New Horizons mission of the moon Charon. It turns out that this distant moon has a number of interesting features on it, including mountains and valleys and perhaps most interesting, a canyon that seems to span the entire surface. The photos can be viewed here.
