April 24, 2011 - HAPPY EASTER!!

April 22, 2011 - Today is my 3-in-1 holiday. It is Good Friday, it is Earth Day, and it is the fourth anniversary of my dad's death. I am trying very hard to avoid making any jokes about how those events are related :)

April 18, 2011 - This is going to be another busy week - I just received a pile of contract work programming specialized mathematical subroutines for a large software developer. But it is still better than having too little work to do :)

April 16, 2011 - I just received an e-mail note that Anna Matsen has completed her graduate thesis on online dictionaries and word lists. As some of you may recall my own Grandiloquent Dictionary was included as well as an interview I did online with the author. Having completed a thesis of my own I know how difficult it can be, and I wish to congratulate Ms. Matsen on this achievement!

April 12, 2011 - Today marks the 50th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin reaching orbit in Vostok 1, and the start of manned space flight. And in even more nerdy news, yesterday marked that 20th anniversary of the creation of Linux!

April 10, 2011 - Today would have been my dad's 69th birthday if he had lived - so many things could have been different if he had been treated properly 13 years ago.

April 6, 2011 - There are rumors of a new discovery at Fermilab of a massive particle that decays primarily to light quarks. It isn't the elusive Higgs boson, but there are many other candidates. (More info)

March 27, 2011 - With classes ending again for the year, I am once again offering tutorial sessions. (More information)

March 19, 2011 - One year since my grandma's funeral. It is amazing (but sad) how much has happened within the family in that time.

March 17, 2011 - Happy St. Patrick's Day!

March 11, 2011 - I wish to express my condolences to the people of Japan who are suffering the after effects of the earthquake. I was offered a position there several years ago and I still have many friends and colleagues in the country.
